Mighty Murderin' Power Ranger

[Editor's Note: Yes, I know, another Power Ranger article. We had planned to stop, but then Johnny came across this news, and decided it was good filler. Sorry. I swear this will be the last time we mention the Power Rangers. I hope.]

Former child actor faces murder charge

Prosecutors: Wealthy couple thrown overboard

SANTA ANA, California (Reuters) -- A former child actor and his wife were ordered to stand trial Tuesday for the murder of a wealthy California couple who, prosecutors say, were tied to the anchor of their yacht and thrown overboard alive, never to be seen again.

Orange County Superior Court Judge John Conley ordered 26-year-old Skylar Deleon, who once starred in the "Power Rangers" TV series, and his wife, 24-year-old Jennifer Henderson Deleon, to stand trial for the murders after a two-day preliminary hearing in Santa Ana, south of Los Angeles.

Also bound over for trial in the case, which baffled police for months as they searched for the missing couple, were a member of the Crips street gang and a prison guard who are accused of helping carry out a conspiracy to steal the 55-foot luxury yacht "Well Deserved."

Prosecutors say Deleon came up with the plot after spotting the yacht for sale in a boating magazine last November and meeting owners Thomas Hawks, 57, and his 47-year-old wife Jackie. He is accused of enlisting the help of 40-year-old gang member John Fitzgerald Kennedy and ex-jailer Alonso Machain, 21, to carry out the murder on November 15, 2004. Machain has since confessed to police and will be tried separately.

Attorneys for the Deleons rejected the charges and during the hearing attacked the credibility of Machain, who is expected to be a star witness for the prosecution.

A police detective testified during the hearing that Deleon and his then-pregnant wife posed as interested buyers and convinced the Hawks to take the yacht on a test run.

Miles off the coast of Newport Beach, prosecutors say, Thomas and Jackie Hawks were attacked with a stun gun, handcuffed and gagged with duct tape. After signing over power of attorney to one assailant, they were tied to the boat's 66-pound anchor and thrown overboard.

The couple was reported missing by relatives and police were led to the Deleons, who produced a bill of sale for the yacht and the power of attorney. Authorities believe the bill of sale was falsified.

Police also found that Deleon had unsuccessfully tried to access the Hawks' bank account in Arizona using the power of attorney.

How about that news? Looks like Power Rangers can kick ass on the show and in real life, but in real life a stung gun, pregnant wife, and middle aged gang members are needed before taking out the elderly. Not quite as exciting as battling Rita Repulsa and Gnarly Gnome in gigantic robots shaped liked animals that combine to form a samurai, but it quenches the blood lust, for a while.

You have to give credit to Skylar. Most former child stars are arrested at one point or another, but usually it's some boring crime like drug possession or assault. Here we have a child star coming up with a complex plot to not only steal a yacht but also to get power of attorney over the very people he robbed. Take that non-Gary Coleman guy from Different Strokes, makes your armed robbery look like small beans. I'm not sure how useful power of attorney is over the dead, but it must be worth something. He might have wanted to use it to inherit some money, but I really would like to think that he just wants to represent them in court if anybody tries to sue their estate. The best part of the crime is that he has a bill of sale for the yacht, so even if he goes to jail he gets to keep the yacht.

In all honesty I don't believe he did it anyway. Let's look at the facts, he use to be a Power Ranger. The code of ethics installed in all Power Rangers would never allow for murder or thievery. Unless the yacht owners were evil, in which case all bets are off. That is the exact same argument I gave when Walter Jones was caught with all those dead hookers in his car. Unfortunately the jury of the case didn't feel the same and he was convicted to five life sentences, and I was stripped of my law license.

This entire situation was probably just set up by an anti Power Ranger group who wants to eventually get the entire cast thrown into jail, in order to lower the chances of new Power Ranger series being made. Would you join a show where all previous cast members are now in jail? Probably because you are a moron, but normal people would say no. There are just to many things that don't add up. The article says that they enlisted the help of a 40 year old gang member named John Fitzgerald Kennedy. First of all what kind of gang has 40 year olds in it anyways? A queer gang that's who. Plus that gang members name is John Fitzgerald Kennedy. In case you're some sort of uneducated immigrant that is the same name as America's second greatest assassinated president. An assassinated man bested only by James Garfield. So the real question here is this man named after the president whose death shocked the nation, or is it something much more sinister. Could it be that Kennedy faked his death to get out of the national spotlight, but then fell on hard times. In order to make ends meet he had to join a gang that specializes in stealing yachts, and just happened to have a spot open for a older gentlemen. Most people would call this theory crazy, and they are probably right.

Then there's this Machain fellow. He is the one who ratted out Skyler, but I think it's all a setup. If Skyler was going to steal the yacht why would he need Machain. He already has the gang member and his wife. How many people does it take to overwhelm an elderly couple? I think that Machain stole the boat, and then planted evidence to incriminate Skyler. Is Machain part of the international anti Power Ranger conspiracy or some other group trying to destroy Skyler? We may never know. I highly doubt any American prison could hold a former Power Ranger, so the chances of Skyler staying in confinement are small. Once he ninja kicks his way out of jail there's nothing keeping him from taking his yacht to another country, and freedom. With Skylar on the lam there is nothing to make Machain and his gang of cronies confess to why they framed the once famous fighter of evil. So like all great mysteries this one will remain unsolved, at least until time machines are invented, because we could use those to figure out what happened, and then change it, thus destroying the future, and hopefully Skylar net, which is what controls the Power Ranger cyborgs we are bent on destroying mankind.
