Baby Clerks Part I
[Part 1 | Part 2]
When Clerks: The Animated Series was tragically canceled by ABC in 2000 after just six episodes, Kevin Smith's production company had to find a way to recoup the enormous investment they put into developing the cartoon. Plans were drawn up to pitch a new Clerks cartoon, this time a children's show based on the adventures of Clerks stars Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Brian O'Halloren and Jeff Anderson as babies in a day care center. It was to be called Baby Clerks to milk from the success of The Muppet Babies from twenty years prior.
Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network all passed on Baby Clerks so no episodes were ever produced. As Kevin Smith said in an interview, "Sure Baby Clerks would have sucked, but not as much a Baby Looney Tunes sucked. That show really sucked."
As a tie in, a weekly comic strip based on the cartoon was to be syndicated in newspapers. Since the cartoon was never produced, only ten editions of the Baby Clerks comic strip were drawn up. Dumb Baby has secured the rights to print the comic strip and proudly presents Baby Clerks: The Comic Strip for the first time in television history.
