"Under Pressure"

Season 1 Episode 14
Canadian airdate: February 24th, 2002

Boycott the Caf name: "Sean Clocks Emma"
Important characters: Sean, Emma, Spinner
Issue of the Week: Final exams

Degrassi the Next Generation episode fourteen

It's final exam time. Sean and Spinner are both worried about failing. Spinner and Sean have spent so much of the school year attacking the caf, giving Jimmy Ritalin, and riding motorcycles, that they haven't put much work into school. Liberty, on the other hand, has no life or friends so she has been getting excellent grades. She bugs Mr. Simpson about how well she will have to do on the final to ace the class. Mr. Simpson is blindsided by Liberty's questioning and tries to get away from here. That's not unusual, but Mr. Simpson doesn't act mean to Liberty here. He does it without hurting her feelings. This is the first time Simpson has not been a total dick to one of his students. Come on, Simpson can be mean and blunt to JT or Sean all the time but he can't tell Liberty to go fuck herself. WTF? WTF?

Spinner wants to get out of taking the English final. That one male cheerleader get really sick. The camera then shows Spinner, smiling fiendishly. Why? Did Spinner get the guy sick? Maybe.

Emma is helping Sean study. They go to Sean's house, which looks to be part of a Hooverville. Tracker isn't going to pay for a nice house when he can put all his money into his motorcycle. As far as Tracker is concerned, a house is nothing more than a roof you fuck under. Speaking of Tracker, Emma is standing outside when Tracker pulls up. Shit, looks like Tracker and Emma are going to rumble. But Tracker thanks Emma for helping Sean turn his life around after the "incident." Tracker doesn't tell Emma what the "incident" is, the details of Sean's shaded past are still shaded. And in the past.

Because Sean's house doesn't have any indoor lights or bathrooms, Emma tutors him at her house. Emma is dedicated to studying so Sean insults her by calling her Liberty. That's a low blow. Emma gets so pissed she whips a menstrual soaked rag at Sean. Sean gets pissed he had a rag whipped at him and whips it back at Emma, almost taking out her eye. Sean says she had better not throw that again, because Sean is trouble. Emma asks Sean about his past and Sean reluctantly tells her.

Sean explains that he has trouble controlling his anger. He had to flee to Toronto because he fought a kid in Wasaga Beach and deafened him in one ear. Emma is nervous about Sean's uncontrollable rage. Emma fucks up making popcorn too. Sean is going to be really mad now.

Meanwhile, Spinner has discovered a perfectly devilish way to avoid taking his English final. He is going to catch the flu virus from Terri. He does this by drinking from Terri's coffee. I think Spinner just wanted free coffee.

It's time for the Media Immersion final. It's a timed test on a computer, so you only get 45 minutes and then the computer locks you out. That's bullshit, a test on a computer. Too bad in real life (especially in 2001) if you try to do a computerized test in classroom then at least a third of the computers are going to freeze up and crash. Then that throws off the time thing and the teacher either has to give the affected students some extra credit, or not include the test in the final grade, or something. But Simpson would probably just let those kids fail.

Anyway, Sean doesn't finish in 45 minutes. Now he's mad. Liberty pops up and says too bad, times up. What an ass. Sean has to do everything he can to not just rip Liberty's head off. He would too if he wasn't on probation.

Sean is worried he will have to repeat the 7th grade again. Jimmy comes by and tells him, "You should ask Spinner for one of his Ritalin, really helps sharpen the memory." Ha. Jimmy is still hooked on drugs from Spinner.

Sean has had it up to here with Jimmy being nice to him and challenges Jimmy to a fight after school. Sean talks like that once scene from Goodfellas, where Joe Pesci is all like "I'm funny. Funny how?" You may also recognize that it resembles the Goodfeathers cartoons from the Animaniacs.

Spinner has not gotten sick yet, this is because Spinner is immune from disease. He runs around the hallways to get his temperature up and then goes to the school nurse. The school nurse is as sick SOB, let me tell you. His solution for everything is to get out the lube and go exploring up a kid's asshole. Or maybe he just wants to go up Spinner's ass. Either way, he has an awful lot of anal lube. Spinner don't do the doop doop up the poop shot, so he runs away. The school nurse laughs evilly and decides there is no reason to let the lube go to waste. He eats it.

Spinner takes the English final and passes.

Ms. Kwan congratulates Spinner for being so awesome.

Sean and Jimmy fight. Jimmy wanted to weasel out of it so he didn't get himself killed, but Sean insulted Jimmy's basketball playing abilities so IT WAS ON. Check how Sean dominates the fight. Jimmy doesn't have a prayer. Fucking Jimmy tries to throw Sean up against a wall but Seam JUMPS OFF THE WALL and knocks Jimmy to the ground. Hell yeah. Sean's a street fighter.

Jimmy is down on the ground and can't get up. Sean is about to go into for the final death blow, when Emma intervenes to save Jimmy's life. But Sean is still possessed by rage and throws a punch at Emma, knocking her into some leaves. Yes. Sean totally clocked Emma in the face.

Next day. Check out how beat up Jimmy's face looks, while Sean doesn't have a scratch. Ashley mocks Jimmy for getting into a fight--and losing. Ashley doesn't think much of Jimmy as a man anymore.

Spinner is happy. He passed grade 8 and his dad scored some wicked Guns N Roses tickets. But then he starts sneezing. Terri says that is how her flu started. Too bad like I said before, Spinner cannot get ill. Terri caught the flu, but come on, does Terri seem like someone who is particularly health conscious? Spinner just sneezes whenever he is about to get an erection. It's an effect of his erection suppressing Ritalin.

Degrassi the Next Generation episode fourteen

Mr. Simpson comes up to Sean. Sean is still on edge and ready to take down Simpson, but Simpson just says Sean passed the Media Immersion test even though he didn't finish it. Mr. Simpson just gave him a passing grade so Sean would spare his life. Now Sean is happy. Unfortunately, Emma is mad about having a fractured skull and breaks up with Sean.

Sean is always under pressure.

Rating: A-
Man, can it get any better than a Sean and Spinner episode? The only way it could get better was if Spinner and Sean ever interacted. They should have teamed up to fight Jimmy.

Intensity Level: 78% Intense
Let's say 78%. That sounds 'bout right.

Final Thoughts:
Who do you think would win a fight between Craig and Sean? They are both possessed by psychotic rage and will fight anyone who uses contractions too often. I'd have to say Sean would win, easily. Sean has never lost as fight and has deafened one kid. Craig only ever beat up Joey and got his ass kicked by a homosexual. Craig may talk the talk, but he can't walk the walk.
