"Don't Dream It's Over"--Slightly rewritten, now with 20% more fat jokes
Season 3 Episode 17
Canadian airdate: February 23rd, 2004
Ok, so Terri has gotten back together with Rick, the guy who used to beat her in the episode "Never Gonna Give You Up." It didn't take long for Terri to get back with Rick either, that was seven episodes ago. You'd think it'd take longer to ever consider even talking to someone who used to beat you up on dates, but beggars can't be choosers.
Rick and Terri reunite in drama class while practicing that exercise where on person falls backwards and the other person has to catch them. Rick regains Terri's trust by catching her. Rick lifted weights over the time they were apart so he'd be ready for this.
Also Sean and Ellie are now dating. That's just wrong. That's way worse than Terri and Rick. I think the main reason Sean is with Ellie now is that Jay is having sex with all the bad girls, and the next closest thing to bad girl would be goth, I guess.
Sean takes Ellie to see an action movie, the one pictured above. Elimination Round 3.
You know, musical chairs is a type of elimination round. Ok, I don't know where I was going with that last sentence, that is ridiculous, but I'm going to leave it in.
The problem is, Ellie brought Marco along. I guess she and Marco were going to see a gay Indian movie before Sean asked her out. Even so, as Johnny said "You don't invite a homo on your date unless you need somebody to drive."
Ellie needs to learn when to stop being someone's friend. Marco only dated her to hide his gayness, and now that he is out, the two of them don't need to go everywhere together. You're not playing the beard anymore, girlfriend. Also, you and Marco need to shutup while you're in a movie theater. You aren't black.
Anyway, Paige, Spinner, their black sidekicks, Terri and Rick drive to a field to hang out. Everyone is leery about letting Rick near Terri, and for good reason. No one likes Rick. Paige gets mad at Rick for suggesting he and Terri sit on the hood of the van. Paige doesn't even want to think about how much it would cost her to fix that dent.
Rick and Terri go off on their own to a field. Rick doesn't want to ride with Paige and tells Terri to walk home with him. Terri isn't one for walking which makes Rick REALLY MAD! Rick just slams Terri down so hard he smashes her head against some cinder blocks. For some reason they were in a field full of cinder blocks.
Terri is knocked out by that. When Spinner and Paige come by the check out what happened, Rick takes off into the woods. Yes, that is what happens. Rick runs away into the woods.
The next day at school, the news of Terri's beating is announced. Much sadness is felt throughout the school, particularly in the cafeteria where Terri;s absence will result in the layoff of three members of the cafeteria staff. Paige put together a large get well card for Terri which includes a drawing of Terri in which she is thirty pounds lighter. But that is just because Paige didn't have enough crayons.
Now Terri is in a coma in the hospital. Whoa. Terri's dad is there because Terri is going to go into surgery soon. Terri's clogged arteries don't give the doctor's much hope, but Terri's dad says she'll pull through. "She's a fighter," he says. "You should just see how she'll fight for the last jelly donut every morning." Terri's dad then somehow realizes that Spinner and Paige knew Rick was abusive. He blames them for what happened to Terri and throws his hot coffee in Paige's face.
Terri's beating really affects Spinner and Paige. Spinner doesn't want to have sex when they make out in Paige's parent's van. Paige can't believe she's not going to get boned by Spinner tonight because Spinner has to get to work right away and the two of them argue.
Meanwhile, Marco talks to Ellie at the Dot. He tells her that she has to stop inviting him to all her dates with Sean, because that is ridiculous. Marco is really good at giving other characters advice, as he will do it a lot for now on. He's just like a younger, more feminine Ann Landers.
Spinner is walking outside, when he sees Rick sitting in a car. Spinner pulls Rick out of the car and is about to beat his ass, when Rick's mother comes out to rescue Rick. Rick's mom is crazy because she talks like she's haunted by a ghost. "You stay away from my son," she cries, "He's a ghoooost. A ghooooooooost!"
Paige is so impressed that Spinner almost killed Rick, she apologies to him and sucks his dick right there on the sidewalk.
That's why you don't dream it's over.Rating: B
Pretty fun episode. We saw Terri almost get killed, which was mega cool. Keep it up Rick. We saw Rick's crazy ghost mom. We saw Sean star in the B Plot while Spinner starred in the A Plot. Super.
Intensity Level: 26% Intense
I'd guess a girl getting beat down into a coma would be 100% Intense, but it's Terri, so who cares?
Spinner Hazel Quotes:
"Be with all your friends, idiot?" - Hazel to Terri when the gang plans to go to the park. Hazel hates Terri.
We only saw how Spinner and Paige felt about Terri's injuries. But what about Jimmy and Hazel, they were Terri's friends and also there when Rick beat her down? Maybe they just don't care about Terri.
