"What It Feels Like to Be a Ghost" Part 1Season 6 Episodes 9 & 10
Canadian airdate: January 2nd, 2007
Ah man, Craig is back and apparently he is under the impression that he is a rock star. Where did he get that idea from?
The older kids and Manny have a welcome back party for Craig, which consists of him playing his crappy acoustic songs while everyone sits around and listens. Hasn't any of these kids heard of alcohol yet? Manny doesn't like this as it is taking away from the time that they could be fucking.
Craig says about his one song, "I wrote on a ferry to Vancouver Island. It's a long story." What? Craig didn't become a rock star, he just got a job at a gas station in Vancouver.
Craig comes by Degrassi and takes Manny across town. No one at Degrassi is ever concerned with missing class. Meanwhile, JT and Mia are having a problem. Mia's daughter is sick, so the daycare sent her home. It is during school and Mia has to give a report she put off three times already because the daycare keeps dropping her baby off at the school instead of the hospital. JT takes the kid off her hands, because he was just going to skip class to go to the ice cream stand anyway, so this is convenient. Mia should just take her child to the baby development class and let them play with her. That's what they did on Saved by the Bell.
Craig takes Manny to Ellie and Marco's house to eat their food. Manny is trying out for a teen drama series called West or Wind or Windwest or something, and Ellie say that show is good "If you like earnest teen melodramas filled with woefully bad writing." The writing staff really hate their jobs. They are taking shots at their own show now. I hope the reference to a college kid making fun of Degrassi means they have been reading this site, though I would be offended that they would reference us through Ellie.
Look at the gay flag in the corner. Marco tried to start his own country.
Mia comes into the Dot where Liberty and Toby are enjoying some coffee or pop or whatever they have at the Dot. Liberty sites down next to Mia and tells her all about how JT got her pregnant and then sold drugs to support them. Mia is mad because JT neglected to tell her that and she leaves angry, but she also came in pretty angry, so maybe she just one of those people who always slams doors.
JT wants to make Mia no longer mad at him so he goes to her house. When he knocks on the door, Mia comes out through a balcony somewhere else. JT went to the wrong house. Mia is still mad at him, but after he talks to her some more, Mia forgives him. JT also mentions that he only sold prescription drugs, so he is one of those drug dealers that at least showers.
Craig has a show that night. Manny meets him backstage and is shocked to see him bent over a table doing cocaine. That one guy in the red shirt knows about the coke but doesn't care. Look at the back wall, he owns some replica weapons from the Lord of the Rings. Those are a great way to decorate a room when you have people doing drugs nearby.
When you see this episode, notice that we don't really see Craig snort cocaine. We just see him hunched over and then a shot of a table with cocaine. The actor who plays Craig knows as much as about doing cocaine as he knows how to really play a guitar. What a wee-ner.
The audience is entirely friends of his. His mom is probably back there. Oh wait...she's dead. Ha, take that Craig. Your mom is dead.
Craig only did one song and I think it was the same one he did earlier in the episode. Come on Craig, you need to have more than one song to make it in music. You aren't Sammy Hagar and your song isn't as good as "I Can't Drive 55."
But Ellie is impressed with the song's drowning allegories and Craig is impressed that Ellie picked that up. It would be hard not too, he clearly sang that he was drowning at the end.
Ellie also says that the song "Help" is about help.
The next day at school, Manny tells Emma she didn't get the part on Windwest. Emma complains, "That show is so issue of the week." Take THAT whoever is in charge of Degrassi, your writers are going to revolt. When Manny tells Emma about her problems with Craig, Emma says that "True love is worth fighting for" and hugs her. Emma is in love with Manny.
That would be kind of hot if it was a girl other than Emma.
At the next student council meeting, JT proposes that Degrassi start a daycare. Liberty thinks that is a stupid idea and asks, "What about building codes, JT? What about child height counters? Facilities? A playground?" JT's rebuttal is "Come on." Then JT gets mad at Liberty for being against putting a daycare in Degrassi. JT thinks it because Liberty hates him, but as evil as Liberty is, she has a point here. Putting a daycare in Degrassi doesn't make much sense. Though we have seen three girls on the show who have been pregnant. If that is a statistical sample of the student body, at least 200 girls at Degrassi become pregnant each year. But even so, JT should take his proposal to the school board. The student council doesn't have any power or money to do anything more than sponsor a dance.
Craig and Manny have dinner with Dylan, Marco, Ellie, and that editor guy. The college kids discuss Rousseau. I like this scene because it reminds me of college, how kids will gather and repeat what their professor said in their Intro to Political Thought class and pretend that they are smart. Of course, Manny feels left out and everyone should give her a break. She isn't in college yet. Craig does a pretty good job of pretending to know what they are saying. Manny then tells Ellie that no one likes her (true) and Ellie retorts that at least she did not show her breasts online (good for us). CAT FIGHT!
Manny leaves the table and Craig follows her. Manny reaches for Craig's zipper to undo his pants but then she finds some of his cocaine. She and Craig do some cocaine and then come back to the dinner all hopped up and energetic. I don't know if cocaine makes you hyper, I have no experience with it because I am not cool enough to ever be invited to use drugs. The last time I saw cocaine used on TV it was Pulp Fiction, so I thought it made you mellow out and go to 50's themed restaurants.
The following morning, Ellie finds some cocaine in Craig's room. I guess Craig is staying at her house. Craig lies and says it is Manny's, setting us up for Part 2.
