"If You Leave"Season 6 Episode 13
American airdate: February 16th, 2007
Manny is leaving Emma's house to go back home to live with her crazy parents, but not before she tries to steal some of Emma's clothes. Emma is sad about Manny leaving, saying, "You're like the sister I never had." Emma is forgetting about Mr. Simpson.
Marco is worried. He hardly ever sees Dylan because Dylan is out at all hours and when he does come home, he smells like vodka, lube, and Asian pubic hair.
Marco suspects that Dylan is cheating on him again, so he goes to get help. His best friend is Ellie, but he knows she is as useful as water to a drowning man, and just as pleasant. Ellie doesn't know anything about relationships anyway, she has yet to figure out whether the guy she makes out with every afternoon in the newspaper office is technically her boyfriend or not.
Marco seeks help from Spinner and Jimmy. Spinner and Jimmy are at their t-shirt shop. They still have the shop even though we were told that they were going to pack it up a while back ago. I'm am going to say this might not be a plot hole by assuming that they paid rent in advance and couldn't get it refunded so they just decided to hang there and play video games instead of going to school. That racing game they are playing is a sub par racing game because it is not Crazy Taxi, but Spinner doesn't like to bring his Dreamcast into such a high crime area.
Spinner thinks that Dylan has gotten messed up with the MyRoom pages; that MyRoom always causes trouble. Spinner is not in college yet so he doesn't realize that college kids don't use MyRoom, they use Facenovel.
Now that Manny is living with her parents, she has to adhere to strict dress code. This means no more cleavage revealing blouses or ass crack revealing skirts. Instead, she has to wear Christmas clothes. She is also dating the class president from Lakehurst. Class president guy realizes, based on how Manny dressed for a date, that he is not going to be getting to second base today, so he pretends to be interested in just talking to her. He is biding he time for another day. Manny is impressed that a man apparently shows no interest in getting into her pants, so she extends the date and blows off a movie night with Emma. They were going to watch Judge Dredd.
Marco checks Dylan's computer to read his emails. I like that Degrassi has people use Windows computers instead of Macs. All other TV shows and films show people using Macs, even in office buildings. Macs are alright, I enjoy the game Gerbils, but around 90% of people in the real world use PCs, so all those Macs kind of stand out. Degrassi goes against the Hollywood grain here. Maybe it's because they don't sell Macs in Canada.
Marco finds an email from some guy named Julian inviting Dylan to the pub. Here it is. Dylan is cheating. His name is Julian, he has to be gay.
Manny and Class president have a double date with Emma and Sean at the Dot. Emma and Sean are hostile to Class president because he went to the same school as the kid who killed JT. They think he was best friends with the killer. Mia is even there, albeit sitting alone (since JT died she has no friends). Mia tells Class president off for being friends with the killer. Someone needs to tell these kids that not everyone who goes to the same school is friends with one another. Hell, the main characters only associate with one another and ignore the other 1500 kids who attend Degrassi.
I should mention that Marco hasn't showered this entire episode. And this episode spans at least three days. Marco, if Dylan is never around I think you need to look at yourself as the root of the problem. Being alternative and trendy stops being cool when you ditch hygiene for being too mainstream and conformist. Get some soap and open all the windows.
Marco heads to the pub to call Dylan out for cheating. But it is Marco who is being the dumbass here (talk about a reoccurring Degrassi plot). Dylan was not cheating. Julian is from a Swiss hockey team that wants to hire Dylan to play for them. Since Julian is Swiss, Marco being smelly and unwashed doesn't bother him and he signs Dylan to the team.
Soon Dylan will leave for Switzerland. He and Marco agree to make the most of the time they have left. There is going to be semen all over the walls of their house.
Degrassi is in the cheerleading finals. They are also hosting the finals because Degrassi hosts every sporting event in Canada. The school was a big part of Toronto's bid to host the 2008 Olympics. But everyone on the committee laughed at Canada for making a high school the centerpiece of their bid and Canada totally ran home crying with its pants wet. Nooch!
To add to Manny's treachery, Lakehurst is going to be at the cheerleading competition. I think they are going to be the only other school at the competition. A few people are upset by this, because Lakehurst is the school where everyone got together to kill JT. Mia is particularly upset with this, because now she has no one left at Degrassi who will put up with her little bastard child. It's been three years since Emma protested something, so Emma decides it is time to get back in the game. She is going to bring down Lakehurst's cheerleading team. That will get them back for killing JT!
Emma rallies the Degrassi student body to yell "go home Lakehurst!" during that school's cheerleading routine. This makes the team unable to lift up one girl and they start crying. Victory has been had by Degrassi!
Manny is angry that Emma ruined the finals, but Emma has the whole school gang up against Manny. Manny is dating a Lakehurst student, so she is "sleeping with the enemy" as Emma says. How about Emma assumed right off that bat that Manny would be sleeping with this guy? The whole school is about to beat the shit out of Manny when Ms. Hotass intervenes.
The school is being too hard on Manny. They are forgetting all the good things she has done for Degrassi. She gave the school her boobs. She introduced the chess team to a woman's touch.
Emma and Manny aren't friends after that, but by the end of the episode they are again. Just like every episode where they get into a fight and stop being friends for fifteen minutes.
This was kind of a filler ep. The thing is, it's the only Degrassi episode we're going to get for about two months so we'd better savor it. At least it had plenty of high school cheerleaders showing off a little tummy and leg.
Man, I'm going to end up on Dateline someday.
Does It Go There? No
It does not. I'm outta here. Smell ya later stinkers!
