"Don't Stop Believin'"Season 7 Episode 22
Canadian airdate: June 9th, 2008
Ellie is trying out speed dating. That is that thing from the 40 Year Old Virgin where you sit at a table and try to have a quick conversation with another person and then decide if you would like to date any of them further. No one wants to date Ellie further.
Paige comes by dressed as a cow and says that her parents are helping her get a condo, so she will move out of the house she shares with Ellie, Marco and probably a few other people. Ellie and Marco need to find some new roommates because they cannot afford the rent. It's about time they mentioned that a couple of college kids shouldn't be able to afford the rent for a giant house in a city of over two million people. If this housing situation were in any way based on real life, you'd need to cram at least twenty kids into that house to cover rent and utilities. And none of them would ever do any chores.
Meanwhile, Liberty and Black class president guy are tied for the position of valedictorian. To settle this, the students will hold a vote. This solution apparently makes more sense than letting them be co-valedictorians because they both earned it. Normally, I'd call this another instance of Degrassi being a stupid show, but lots of stupid schools vote for valedictorians in stupid real life.
Liberty tells black class president guy that she detected a spark between them. Black class president can't believe she would think this because he is currently dating Emma and no one likes Liberty.
Over at Paige, Ellie, Marco and that other guy's house, the roommates get high and have an ice cream social while they giggle a lot. They lit a bunch of scented candles to mask the smell of marijuana.
Marco and Ellie make their way to her bedroom, stoned out. They then make out and wind up in bed together. Which proves my point that you have to be in a fucked up state of mind to want to go to bed with Ellie. The next morning, Marco wakes up with a clear head and gets the hell out of there.
Ellie thinks she has a new boyfriend.
Paige is cooking spoiled bacon for breakfast. Marco and Ellie use the bacon as a metaphor to discuss their night together. Ellie talks about how she has always liked bacon and realizes that she and bacon go great together and she should eat more of it. Marco says that he has never liked bacon and only ate some because he was high. Normally he finds bacon disgusting. And no one should eat bacon, it's unhealthy. I also want to know why they have a pay phone in the house.
Liberty is so mad that black class president guy did not want to leave Emma for her, that she has made her valedictorian campaign video a vicious attack on him. Toby is filming the video and recommends that she not go negative. I don't understand how Liberty thinks she can win the election by mentioning that the other guy will not date her.
Back at the college, Editor guy announces via video who will succeed him as the next editor of the paper. Everyone expects it to be Marco's black boyfriend, because he is a junior and has lots of experience with the paper. But instead, Editor guy chooses Ellie. Ellie is very proud that she is going to be the next editor of the newspaper. It would have been logical to give it to the other guy because he will be a senior next year while Ellie will only be a sophomore, but Editor guy went with the person he slept with. Marco's black boyfriend only has himself to blame there, he could have slept with Editor guy.
Black class president guy's valedictorian video is shown first in Media Immersion. He is very polite in it. Liberty is then worried because her video was mean and no one will vote for the jerk. So Liberty fakes that she is choking and is about to die. No one helps her. Finally, Toby steps up and Liberty thanks him by elbowing him in the stomach. Just before Liberty's attack video is to be shown, the power goes out. Canada got behind on its electric bills again.
At some point, Paige and Ellie kiss. It was not as hot as it should have been, which points to how far Degrassi has declined. The last time Paige randomly kissed a girl, she ended up in a lesbian relationship so Ellie is really hoping Paige will decide to date her. Ellie is getting lonely and desperate. Ellie comments that it tasted like bacon. Paige has spent the last two days at home eating bacon.
Back at Degrassi, Mr. Simpson gets on TV to announce who won valedictorian. In Canada, every announcement, no matter how trivial, has to be made over closed circuit TV. No wonder their electric bills are so high. Liberty has won the election. Well, Hitler won an election too, so I suppose there is precedence.
Does It Go There? No, sir
